Can someone please point me toward reliable sources concerning the KM's use of Indonesian personnel? I am particularly interested in learning about the immediate post World War II years. From what I have learned so far, Indonesian personnel began to leave the KM in 1945 and the KM did not attempt to recruit more Indonesians to replace those men who left the navy. Indonesians still in the KM by 1949 were given a choice about whether to transfer to the new Indonesian armed forces or remain in the KM. Some men from the Moluccan islands remained on duty with the KM, the last retiring in the 1960s.
I seek sources in the Dutch or English languages about Netherlands naval policy regarding its Indonesian personnel, preferably published items such as books and articles. If you prefer I can also be reached via private message though the DutchFleet site.
Thank you,
Mark C. Jones
