  • Morokrembangan sea plane base and Dutch PBY Catalina

A friend of mine is looking for some photos, he has browsed many places and archives. Maybe one of you can help him out.

    He is looking for:

    - Any photos of MVK Morokrembangan (main seaplane base ). Ideally prewar or during the NEI campaign, but he won't be picky at this point! Photos from the air would be great, but again he does not have the time to be picky.)

    - Any photo of Consolidated PBY Catalina in Dutch markings. (Y-38 through Y-73 only).

Hopefully one of you can help him out.

    Hi Bram,

It's not an aerial view of Morokrembangan, and it's certainly not a Catalina. But your friend wasn't picky , so I've decided to send it anyway.

The Institute for Maritime History has a film of Morokrembangan dated 1932 (inventory no. IMH 0485).

    Best regards, Leon.

          Hello Bram,

just found this picture of the DO 24K X14, according to the caption it is at Morokrembangan and she is on a Braat airplanecar being moved inside the main hanger, no date mentioned.

The source is mentioned in the picture.

          Regards

          Berend

            MVK Morokrembangan

            Bram,

            Groeten,

            Rob

That picture with the plane on the "Braat airplane car"is interesting. Who knows more on this car? Was it motorised or a trailer? Are there better pictures?

Braat of Soerabaja produced armoured cars after a NEI design in 1941:

but unfortunately nothing is known about the factory....

                Kind regards,
                Nuyt

Volgens N. Geldhof "Verkennen en Bewaken", p. 56 werd gebruik gemaakt van Caterpillar tractoren om de vliegtuigwagentjes te trekken.
